DAOS formats DCPMM as an ext4 filesystem, mounts it with the DAX option and then fallocates for each pool one file per target (called the pool shard in the online documentation). This file is then mmapped and DCPMM is
directly via the PMDK/pmemobj library. Does it answer your question?
